On my EOS 30, the lightmeter goes silly when a lens without electronics
(like a M42 adapter) is attached.

Suppose at f1.4 it measures 1/60s.
Without a lens, or when you use a adapter, the camera reads 00 and 1/500s.

You can try this on your camera by only partially rotating the lens onto the
camera, so the electronics don't connect. The aperture should read 00. Be
careful you don't drop the lens.
Measure something easy like an evenly lit wall, and remember the shutter
speed.
Next, rotate the lens all the way onto the camera as usual, and select
maximum aperture. Measure and check the shutter speed again.
The shutter speeds should be equal, as its the same aperture. But on my EOS
30 there's a 3 stops difference...
