Lots of computers have transformers that can switch between 110v - 220v, i
just helped a friend going back to Germany about this. The only difference
is a simple power supply, and I think a  lot of power supplies can operate
in two voltages. But a company might not like this since you can effectively
control the market (and selling price) buy limiting the area to be used
(much like DVD's).

As far as I remember, 550ex has a digital scale that showed both meters and
feet. Sigma Super 500 has both at the same time - for me it is easier to
think in terms of meters...
