The first part says that the basic AF engine is the same between the 1v and 1d, only they've added a custom function #20 that controls AF sensitivity. They go on to say that it would allow pro photographers to decide whether they want to desensitize the camera to sudden shifts in focus (when tracking an object that is moving behind trees or telephone poles) or to make it more sensitive (objects moving quickly and erratically).
