That's correct... it's a single burst. Slaves are fine
with the built-in. (I know the D30's built-in is
E-TTL... is that true for the Elan 7/7e also?)

It should, as long as the flash exposure you pick (in
manual mode, by either distance/guide number,
auto-flash calculator, or flash meter) is correct, and
the slaves overpower the built-in.
