There's a choice of split image screens for the EOS3.  If you install any of
them, you will lose evaluative (and centre spot) metering because the
split-image prisms upset the metering patterns.  (You should also change CF0
from 0 to 1 to compensate.)
Using my Nikon FG with its standard split image screen and a 50 f2 Nikkor
(at 8-10�C), I can distinguish between objects 250m away and those at
infinity.  The standard hyperfocal distance for the above combination is ~
42m, so the FG is doing very well.
