Hi Mike,

I think, only the new series super tele lenses have carbon fiber composite
hoods like the EF 400 2.8L II and all of the L class IS lenses 2.8 and
faster. Both of the EF 300 2.8L lenses I have owned and all of the series I
lenses like the EF 400 2.8L and EF 600 4L used some type of metal for the
hoods. All other lenses have plastic hoods that twist or clip on or an
attached, sliding metal hood like the series I EF 200 2.8L and EF 300 4L/4L
IS lenses. Many of the later lenses do indeed have flocking (that comes off
and gets all over the place if not careful), and this is often designated
with a II after the hood number, though this dies not appear to be
consistent.

Regards,

Chip Louie
