This morning I was shipping a lens (returning the 200/2.8 mushroom) via the Post Office, well packed, etc, and I asked the clerk to stamp the parcel "Fragile." He asked me what was in it, and then told me that doing so would just attract attention to the parcel and cause handlers to throw it around more! Basically he said the best way to get a package through unharmed was to send it low profile, and it would just be handled normally. It made me stare, and he just shrugged, and said "That's the way it is, " in a sympathetic, ironic sort of tone.
