Exactly what type of AA batteries have you been using? On the EOS 30 (aka Elan 7E), the battery pack specifically says not to use Lithium batteries. That's coz fresh Lithium batts have too much power and the initial rush of current can damage the camera's electronics. Personally I have started using Energizer e2 titanium batteries, which are alkaline.
