Just to throw in a second opinion,  I use 1350mAh NiMH
rechargables in my BP-50 Elan IIe setup just fine.

Very occasionally the BP-50 doesn't get mounted correctly,
and the camera says "battery empty" even with freshly
recharged batteries.  Unmounting and mounting the BP-50
usually fixes this problem.  I have done as many as 40
rolls of film a day on a single set of rechargables.
