You are correct. You need a computer.

Yes, it is faster. Now I use two bodies which is handy enough.

Well, I have a slide scanner. So after I have scanned I have all
the same possibilities as digishooters have. And I only need to
scan those photos which are good enough for printing (not that many).
The only reason I see to digitize all photos is the computerized
archiving of them.
