Hi all. This isn't completely off topic as it relates to Canon lenses with
filters and film.

I'm planning on doing some portraits and figure studies and would like to
do them on slide film for a couple of reasons.

One is the flexibility to use them in either the slide or print sections of
club competitions and the other is because of the almost total lack of
grain in digital prints from slides. However, I have 2 concerns.

1. I'll be using either a 28-135 and/or a 100-400 both of which I find too
sharp for this kind of work. I'd like some advice on a good subtle
softening filter which doesn't otherwise alter the image in any obvious
way.

2. Skin tones with slide film. Can they be as good as the specialist
negative films made for this purpose? I was thinking of Fuji Astia but
haven't tried it yet.

I have studio lighting gear with umbrellas reflectors, soft boxes etc. and
will be using this exclusively.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially in regard to the filter.
I have tried some black bridal veil net over the lens but the effect was
unnoticeable.

Norman
