Which doesn't mean that the manufacturer couldn't switch to Programm
mode.

Well, with the EOS 600 I can shift if I put the lens in MF.

I am not that good at guessing what aperture gives me the right DOF.



It all boils down to:
For no apparent reason the DEP mode with the pro EOS 1V is suboptimal.
