Hi Denise,

If you have the focussing ring on 1.5 metres (see the little window) but
your focussing range switch is on the "3m-infinity" setting, the AF function
on the lens will stop working and the lens will seem to have locked up. You
can remedy the situation by flicking the switch to "1.5m-infinity", or
manual turn the focussing ring to at least 3 metres on the little window.

Hope this helps.

Subject: EOS 70-200L Locked-up

Hello All,

I was using my 70-200L the other evening and it quit working. Thought
it was my camera and checked it and it wasn't so I switched lens and
realized it was the first lens. It was getting dark and when I
depressed the shutter button I could see the red light under the lens
cover but nothing happened. Didn't focus or move or anything.
Switched from auto to manual and tried everything I could think of,
cleaning the contacts. After about 20 minutes it finally worked
again. What do you think happened?

Sincerely,

Denise
