Canon admits software bug in EOS 1D that affects operation of 28-70/F2.8 L
zoom lens
If you are the owner of Canon EOS 1D digital camera and 28-70/F2.8L zoom
lens, it is possible that your photos are suffering from continous
underexposure. I have reported the problem to Canon Australia several weeks
ago and today received call from Customer Service Department who told me
that Canon Japan has acknowledged the problem with this particular lens. In
round terms, Canon has advised me that there is software bug 1D affecting
certain parts of interaction between the camera and this particular (yet
very popular) lens. As a result of this bug, the camera could be
underexposing photos by 2/3 to 1 stop. I was invited to submit the 1D body
for software update, as apparently the upgrade is not user installable. I
rushed to Canon this morning and had the 1D updated in less than 10
minutes. All works fine now. I am wondering if Canon is scheduling the
broader announcement of the problem. By the way, the folks from Canon
Australia have completed earlier today similar upgrade on their in- house
1D body and confirmed that from now on the 28-70/F2.8 L lens works
flawlesly.
