I've flown since Sept 11 with the same pack.  Be sure not to over-stuff
the outside pocket, as it might then exceed the size limitation. 
However, my experience has been that size limitations are not strictly
enforced.  In the USA, you are entitled to carry-on one piece of luggage
(your photo trekker) *and* one "personal item", which includes a laptop
or purse.
