Hi John,

I've been using this lens for 4 months, shooting a variety of subjects. I
posted a brief comparison with the 17-35, try a search.

Forget the marketing, this lens is excellent with film cameras. In terms of
resolution, colour, contrast and resistance to flare, it is better than my
14, most noticeably wide open in the corners. The zoom has a little more
barrel distortion at the wide end and slightly more vignetting at f/2.8.

A big plus with the zoom is that it will accept front mounted filters as
well as rear gels. Combining, say, a grad in front and an LB in the rear
minimises any deterioration.

So I'd say go for it, although you're right about that 2mm. You may decide
to keep your 14, as it's used value seems to have diminished in the UK,
probably due to the introduction of the 16-35!

HTH,

Regards,

Craig Z
