Hi, We have just bought the 16-35mm f2.8L lens and in our opinion it completely outclasses the 20-35mm f2.8L and the 17-35 f2.8L lenses. The edge performance is better than we expected and the convenience factor is wonderful. We just sold our 20mm f2.8 and 35mm f2.8 lenses because there is just no need for them now we have the 16-35mm zoom. We have been wary of zooms but this lens is an absolute jewel and will make travel photography great fun. No more swapping lenses at the wide end.
We wondered about the 'designed for digital' marketing ploy but that is all it is. This lens is super sharp. If you need anything sharper then look at medium format photography. This lens is as good as it gets and the build quality is far far better than the 17-35mm. Hope this helps. Kindest regards, Dave & Caroline.
