This train of thought follows my own. Not everyone is going digital so soon. I was at my local camera shop here in Tokyo and despite their interests in making another sale by letting me convince myself I need some new camera gear, they specifically recommended against going digital for my needs.
I have to shoot a lot of martial arts photos. I often have to take pictures in small dark training halls of subjects with erratic movement and in places where I'm not allowed to use any flash. Time is also a limiting factor with only a few hours to work with at best to get quality images publishers will want to use. The store even recommended against the 1D because although it does have an eight frame buffer, there would be a delay afterward to process the data. I would love to go digital at some point, and while the high end digital cameras are getting better, it appears that the cost will still be prohibitive for some time to come.
