I wasn't going to start in on this topic but now that it has been going
on so long I find myself doing so. Please remember that this is all my
own opinion and want to hear your response (no flaming please). I have
made up my mind on moving to digital but am intrested in why so many are
against it.

First please tell me why the Canon 1D and the Nikon D1x/h series cameras
are being considered prosumer cameras?
Both series are based on there respective "pro" film bodies, with nearly
the same feature sets as the 35mm cameras.
The bodies are made of the same composites that the 35mm cameras are.
Same lens mounts, Focusing systems, and shoots as many if not more
frames per second.
I know that the term "pro film body" is in itself a subjective term but
for the sake of this email the Canon 1v and the Nikon F5 are the
equivelant bodies (if you think different why?)

On the subject of the photo itself why is the digital so inferior?
Anything blown up to a size of 30"x40" is going to show grain or pixels
if you stand 1 foot in front of the picture. Tell me what you would be
able to see on film that you can't on digital film in a 8x10 photo. (I
will at this point submitt I still have a hard time giving up my Kodak
E100vs film). In my opinion though the pro digital cameras on the market
are as good if not better than the 35mm film cameras in production today
( I do not include larger format cameras in this argument because I fell
that they are still better quality). I also cringe when people assume
that you can not get good images with a camera that only shoots at 2.5
megapixels. You can shoot spectacular images as long as you know how to
shoot the cameras. (plus blow them up to poster size that will look
great as long as you know how to handle them once in the camera without
ever opening Photoshop). For the best explanation of how this all works
see a book called "The D1 Generation" (It is a Nikon book i know but the
information directly relates to any brand digital)

As I ramble about this subject here is why I beleive that so many people
are against the current digital cameras. People are scared of the new
technology. Simple as that. When switching to digital you need to learn
two very tricky things white balance and file compression. These two
things alone are what makes a digital camera so much different. If you
can learn them though there is no limit to what you can do with a modern
Digital SLR.

If you want to check out what can be done with digital check out these

As i said before this is a bit of a rambling on my part. But i really am
intrested in why people are so reluctant to use digital as an everyday
format. All of the digital i have seen looks great wether it is a poster
8x10 or a projector on a 20 foot screen. The only thing that keeps me
from buying a Canon 1D is that i don't have the cash to spend this
instant, but will own one by the end of the year. The applications i
plan on using it in is nature / wildlife photography and Dirt bike
racing. Both of which i shoot on Kodak E100vs right now. I see though
that even though the camera is expensive I don't really need to shoot
that many roles of film to save on film and processing costs.

This topic may not be for the list so feel free to ramble and rant back
