Well, I had a wider field in my mind that also includes MF format cameras with digital backs. Compared to these cameras the 1D and D1x are more like prosumer cameras. That does not mean that the 1D and D1x are not up to rough professional use. In contrary these cameras are more suitable for certain tasks. Nevertheless, they are in a price segment that non-professionals can afford. Hey, I have a couple of 1n and a D1 and I am not a professional. In my case I get much better results from my 1n then the D1. I know the D1x has improved quite a bit over my 1D but I doubt that it could fill that big gap. The other concern I have is that I want to project my slides. Digital projectors are simply not up for that task. You might claim otherwise but there is a big difference between my projecting my slides then projecting my digital images. And I do not have to stay close to the projected image to see that difference. Just my opinion. Sooner or later I will change but for my purposes the time is not ripe yet. For other people in other fields the time was over-ripe for Canon to come out with the 1D. I believe right now we are in a phase where both film and digital cameras have their own fields where they perform better then the other. Times will change...
