I'm toying with the idea of upgrading to a 550EX from my 380EX. I only rea;;y use it for fill-flash on portraits and at indoors family gatherings - just informal shoots. Maybe now and then at car shows and the like.
There's nothing that I've really found limiting with the 380EX, but I'm just wondering how much I would gain by going with the 550EX. Would I really get much more out of using my flash if I went with the 550EX? I have the off camera shoe cord etc ... could I sell that and use an IR transmitter - does the IR give E-TTL and high speed sync support (the off camera shoe cord doesn't). I have an EOS 300 (Rebel 2k) and various lenses from 19 to 300mm. Also I'm also looking at buying a point and shoot digicam with a five pin flash connection on it (its an Olympus). Am I right in assuming that because my 380EX doesn't have manual controls, I couldn't use it (with an appropriate adapter cord) with this camera? Am I right in assuming that if I had a 550EX, I could (just in a dumb mode of course, with no E-TTL, high speed sync etc). I guess I'm just trying to justify the purchase of a 550EX ... would I get more out of it than my 380EX with my SLR, and perhaps of more relevance, would my 380EX work with a 5 pin plug on a digicam ... if not, that's probably a good justification to buy a 550EX ... --- Dion Mikkelsen * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
