I'm 99% sure that Canon TTL only responds between Canon camera bodies and
Canon Speedlites (or 3rd-party compatibles).

Only Canon Powerrshot Digicams (Pro-90, G1, G2) can use Canon E-TTL
speedlites.  Realize that SmartMedia is limited to 128MB per card and
CompactFlash is unlimited (1GB cards are available).  And CF is cheaper
than SM.
