Many many moons ago I had some slides scanned onto PhotoCD at Linhof in Minneapolis, but I wasn't completely satisfied with the results. Low resolution (1500x1000), and the dynamic range is also limited (2.8). This in comparison to most desktop film scanners (dynamic range of 3.0 to 3.6 and resolution of approx. 5500x3500). And on top of that, PhotoCD scans are only 8 bit, which limits the usefulness of digital manipulation. Anyway, this said, Linhof charged 60c per slide plus $15 for the disk, so it came out just under $100. Still more than the $75 I'd pay in Germany in Deutschmark-equivalent, but not bad.
