The exposure compensation setting stays where you set it.  But you should
notice the blinking spot on the bottom LCD screen, and three stops is more
than nudging the Quick Control Dial once or twice.  i.e. It should have been
a deliberate change that you set.

If you changed nothing, that pretty much blows the above idea out of the
water.  ...Metering on my 1V has always been good, so no other suggestions
come to mind.  Good luck tracking it down.  Cliff Kelly
