Any mail order place that doesn't take payment when the order is placed is
faced with one of two options:
1) Wait until they're ready to ship and then reconfirm that the credit
card has available funds, and if not, make efforts to contact the customer
for alternate payment options when (in the case of the D60) there're six or
sixteen people waiting behind this one, or
2) Place a lien on your card's credit limit, usually for far more than
the transaction amount, and without ever telling you what they're doing.

The reason most mail-order retailers do what B&H does is that it insures
payment and (in the majority of cases) speeds out-the-door time.
