<I would disagree! The one big difference is that the handheld meter will
measure incident light, which even the 1V won't do (at least not without the
<styrofoam cup incident light adapter). I would agree that trying to use a
new piece of gear for a big shoot is a recipe for disaster, although if
you're <shooting it as an amateur, it may only be a waste of film. If it's
sunny, use the sunny 16 rule.
<Otherwise, let the camera do its thing, although it might be wise to apply
some exposure compensation on some frames to see what happens (take notes!)

<Good luck

Helen and Geoff

Right light measure, meaning EV in incident light, does exist, but such a
thing like a right exposure measure does not. I mean that you may wish to
make a choice and privilege high lights or low ones or have a more contrasty
picture or anything different. You may select a film, a different chemistry,
or a particular light. EOS 1V has a well calibrated meter, at the level of
Nikon F5, I use both, and give you right ligh measure as far as the object
has a average reflectance but if you wish a precise light or an effect you
need use either manual or exposure compensation. But, Helen, you are quite
right, nothing beats incident light, when possible, and a handheld meter is
my light instrument in medium and large format.

Kind regards

Felix
