I don't have the Canon converter, but a cheaper Tamron. Since the Tamron
lacks the three contacts that are needed by the camera to 'see' the
teleconverter it will not disable AF. And I must say that AF with this
combo works surprisinly well, as long as I use the EOS 5 and focus on a
reasonably bright scene. With the RT I switch back to manual, since the
camera hunts an awful lot. The 5's AF is much better...
