My 1D is 14,9xx and it is 3 months old. I just check on a forum that keeps up with the very latest serial numbers for the 1D and it's around 18,xxx. According to Canon, anything after 10,000 is current model. There is a thread on a few websites that keep up with the latest serial numbers for the 1D. Can't help with the datecode. Your assumption seems logical but I know for a fact that your 1D cannot be more than a few months old.
