No, the lens has nothing to do with the grain on a film capture.  You
may be thinking of a D30 bug that reported the *digital* capture was
grainier with this lens due to an electrical interference of some sort.

Your images are probably grainy because the negatives are a little
underexposed causing the development to be grainier than usual.  This is
due to the way negative films are constructed and how they interact with
the developing chemicals.  One way to alter this would be to change your
ISO setting for your 400 speed film to 200.  This would allow the film
to be more exposed on every shot and reduce grain throughout the roll. 
Or, you could just use a film with less grain and more tolerance for underexposure.

You did mention hot sunny weather, which wouldn't really affect the film
too much if it were shot quickly and processed promptly.  However, if
you had the film sitting around, for instance, in a hot car on the
dashboard or in the glove box for several days, it could have caused
heat damage to the film which would increase grain also.
