That's probably true, but there are other reasons for buying the earlier version - it has an actual depth of field scale on the lens barrel, and in my hands the manual focus ring feels better, although not that great either. The Mk.II's MF ring really sucks, so anything is an improvement. These factors may or may not make a difference to you.
