Hi Avrim, hi List >As for flash, I love the 550ex but switched to Sigma Super 500 which I >really liked. It has pretty much everything 550ex has plus an optical slave >(and works with St-e2 AFAIK, correct me if I am wrong guys). I however >didn';t like this flash with digital Canon bodies. But since you have EOS 3, >you should be fine. That should save you couple hundred dollars and you can >get another nice lens with it. Some lenses that are considered pretty good >are : Tamron 20-40mm, Vivitar 100mm macro (and Sigma and Tamron macro's as >well), Canon 50mm 1.8 is something so cheap every photographer should have >it (about $80US). > >Take care, >Evrim >www.evrimgallery.com
I also took into consideration the Sigma Super 500 instead of Canon flashes. But I am worried about some possible problem. I will use it on my EOS 3 body. Later I intend to buy a 420EX and use Sigma as a master and 420EX as a slave (it cannot be a master) for fill in flash. I am interested in every opinion but please, share only checked, personal experiences. I am likely to read all the contradictory reviews on the net which you also red before :) 1) Will it function well with my EOS 3? I made a search in the newgroups throughout the web and got contradictory results. Some people stated that it is a great flash with EOS 3 even in wireless mode, some people claimed that it is great but have serious problems in wireless mode, some people said that it is great with EOS 3 but incompatible with digital cameras, finally others claimed that it is totally incompatible with EOS 3 (eg. FP mode doesn't work, Av mode sticks on 1/8000 s). Where is the truth? I don't think I will have a digital body in the future. (But who knows? :) ) 2) I may use it with an 420 EX in the future. I am worried because if I am unable to cancel the ETTT mode on the Sigma (and revert to TTL), the preflash of the Sigma will trigger the 420EX. The Canon 420EX cannot be a master, I must use it as a slave.
