I haven't had any particular problem with flare with this lens, and I don't
think distortion is out of line with any zoom at 28mm.  My wife has the
28-105 Canon, so I can directly compare them.  The 28-135 is somewhat
sharper, and IS can be an image saver.  Well worth the difference in price,
I think.
