I can tell you that the 550 EX is absolutely wonderful. It does everything you could expect a speedlight to do, and even more. I own a 550 EX, and I cannot imagine how I could ever live without it. Its downsides would be price and weight. If you don't really need a high power flash unit, you could do very well with a 420, which has most of 550's features (tilt/rotate head, high-speed sync, second-curtain sync, etc.), but is smaller, lighter and cheaper. You also need a "type A" EOS camera (EOS 1N, 1V, 3, 30/33, 300, 50/50E) in order to take full advantage of its features. With a "type B" camera (EOS 5, 500, etc.) you won't have E-TTL, high-speed sync, modeling flash or second-curtain sync (unless the camera itself has this feature, like EOS 5) * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
