No.

Yes.

HSM is very quiet like USM in Canon AF lenses, but the lens is not as fast
to focus (it is not slow either).
Focus tracking works well, noo complaints from me. Other than that the lens
is quite well made and optics are first rate.
BTW, I have found it makes a heck fo a portrait lens. I used it to take
some beauty queen promo shots and they were tack sharp.
The nice part if I could just zoom in and out instead of moving my tripod
back and forth as I do when I use the 135mm F2L.
