A LOT of saleable shots have been made at f 2.8. Most sports shots and other news type photos are made at 2.8.
My "slow" lenses are 2.8...and that is just the long stuff and zooms...like a 16/35 2.8L 70/200 2.8L, 400 2.8L. I make many photos that are in magazines all over the US and world using lenses like this at these aperatures. I also have fast short lenses like the 24 1.4L and 50 1.4USM that I use a LOT. Awesome lenses and shooting avaliable light is often very nice. Heck I even have a 50 1.0 Noctilux for my Leica M6es The 70-200 2.8 is very sharp at 2.8...I use it wide open all the time. Once upon a time Jim Davis said: >One wonders just how many saleable shots were actually taken at F2.8 >on these lenses. I always found this aperture give too shallow a DOF >for a face. You can get maybe the nose in focus...
