John, the 1Ds wasn't the first, Contax announced the 6mp Contax N in July of
2000. Then the 14mp Kodak DCS-14n was announced on 9/23/2002. Canon was
third with their announcement on 9/24/2002.
When we'll see any of them in stores is another story, Canon may well be the
forst to actually ship a camera.
Canon can't be first, since Contax NDigital SLR is already here.
