You could test for misalignment with a collimator. It could be the lens,
lens mount, mirror box, film rails, pressure plate

I hope that you are doing your test shots on a tripod. Jabbing at the
shutter release on a heavy camera can induce yaw, pitch, and roll. Rotatory
movement can result in uneven sharpness.

A good way to check for good handholding technique is to turn your camera
OFF, then practise pushing on the shutter. Watch the image in the viewfinder
as you apply pressure to the button. Find the best technique for your camera
and your hand.
