Hi Julian,

I checked my copy of Canon Lens Technical Reports vol 7 dated 1996, and it
contains details of 5 new L lenses, 17-35 f/2.8 L USM, 135 f/2 L USM, 180
f/3.5 L Macro USM, 200 f/2.8 L II USM, 400 f/2.8 L II USM, and Canon 4X
loupe.
Page 3-4 of the report discussing 180 L Macro, and in page 4 there was 3
photos of a girl taking picture with EOS 50E and 3 macro lenses from the
side, to show working distance for each macro lenses.
                        Comparison of Working Distance
EF 180 f/3.5L USM 25 cm (1X magnification)
EF 100 F/2.8 15 cm (1X)
EF 50 f/2.5 15 cm (0.5 X)
EF 50 f/2.5 9 cm (1X, with Life-size converter)

Hope this helps.

regards,,, Bambang.
