Of course, Jack. When shooting regularly *looking through the finder), not problem whatsoever. The issue raises during on-period picture taking. Once you compose the picture looking through the finder, you take your head aside, notice the exposure settings and release the shutter. having to hold something against the finder sounds annoying, however one the shutter is released, I guess no fear of exposure to be influenced by the streaking light through the finder, since mirror flapped up blocks the finder-entered light to hit the films.
Am I wrong ? I recently tried to do star trails in far from artificial lighting location pointing the lens towards the sky. Set the exposure to about 3-4 hours. I ended up with totally overexposed frame, although I don't remember any accident light hit the lens unintentionally, however I checked the camera from its back several times with small torch. The finder wasn't covered and I suspected I somehow throw some light beam from the torch into the finder which killed the exposure. On the other hand, thinking twice I realize that since the mirror was up, it would prevent that. Go figure... And if you're metering with your eye away from the viewfinder, just hang a rear lens cap or somthing similar over the eyepiece. ===== Bob Meyer That is truly good advice. Lens caps are usually available and work admirably in this application.
