Somebody else addressed this issue very well - perhaps Bob Meyer.  As long
as part or all of the metering system is dependant on the prism then light
entering from the rear will affect the photograph.

I've heard this same problem addressed on the Nikon, Contax and Pentax
lists.  Taking your eye away while the camera is on a tripod is the most
natural thing one can do at that time.  But it also costs in terms of
exposure.
