Try Markins ball heads www. markins. com . They seem to be a piece of
art.

Subject: EOS OT: Carbon Tripod and Ballhead

Dear list-members,

Sorry for being off-topic, but I need your advice.
As Im often taking photos on my backcountry-trips, and my tripod is too
heavy for carrying it around all the time (Manfrotto 055 with MA168
ballhead), I decided to get a carbon tripod. As a good choice to me it
seems to get the Manfrotto No. 443, as it is quite cheap compared with
its competitors from Gitzo.

Now I have some questions:

what about built quality of Manfrotto carbon tripods?

As I shoot also in winter with temperatures below zero degrees celsius,
I wonder if any problems might appear concerning the materials the
tripod is made of.

Will the tripod be stable enough to carry my gear without wobbling or
shaking? Mostly I use an EOS 3 with 2.8/70-200 and sometimes 2x
converter.

Is there a lighter alternative to the ballhead I use at the moment? I
think that only changing the tripod and then putting the old, quite
heavy ballhead will make the combo unstable.

Many thanks in advance, all your help is highly appreciated. Have a nice
weekend, Marco
