Yes, that does make sense.  I have two D60s and anytime the card from
one is used in the other without a format, it takes the higher numbered
folder or image that is on the card (and it might do so even if all
images were deleted--not sure, I always format to delete) and compares
it to the highest number the camera has recently recorded and then uses
the higher number of the two as a starting point for the subsequent images.

Glad canon UK service is quality...I don't think I can say the same for
my experiences with USA pro service.  They actually left a fingerprint
inside my 300/2.8, and then failed to remove it when I sent it back to
them recently!  It is back again for a second try at cleaning it up.
