There is no way I wan't to change the aspect ratio - I'd have to buy a
whole new set of lens hood ;o)



Actually, I'm wondering now whether anyone really wants square image
files?

What is the market?  Album covers?


For a large / medium square format most of the images get cropped
before publication but they have resolution to spare (apologies to D1
owners who *really* believe they surpass that already).

35mm as is is actually a bit wide for most purposes so the loss of a
few mm from the edges would be OK for me.
Changing the format would be very popular with camera manufacturers
though - anything that involves people completely refreshing thier
hardware inventory always is ...
