I'll second Brandon on the FTb.  You could get an F-1, which was the
all-manual pro camera from the period, but that will cost you a lot
more than an FTb, which are easily available for around $100, and are
one of the great cameras.  I'll be more enthusiatic about the 12%
meter in that camera, I think it's great!  

There were two models of the FTb: the FTb and the FTbN (for "new").
The differences are that the the N model has a shutter speed display
in the VF (not a great one), a redesigned film advance lever and stop
down lever, and a spring-loaded cover on the PC socket.  I actually
prefer the FTb, as the stop down/DOF/self-timer lever is more
comfortable.  Other than that, there's no functional difference.  Both
come in chrome or black finish, the latter commanding a somewhat
higher price.

The above are "F series" cameras, there were also A series (AE-1, A-1,
AT-1 etc) and T series (T-90 etc).
