Hi, 1.4x I can't imagine the pencil sized dot making any difference whatsoever even in fairly high contrast situations.
2.0x What does your gold spot look like from the front? If it's black or dark coloured I'd expect no effect. If it's gold when viewed from the front you'll get a little flare which may degrade your image. Whatever you do, don't try cleaning the elements excessively - microscratches over most of the surfaces and only visible under a magnifying glass will lower contrast much more.
