My favorite "quick access" bag for a long zoom is the LowePro Top-Load Zoom
Pro, it's one of the few bags that will hold a body with a grip/motor drive
attached. You can also put lenses on the sides, but the 20-35 with hood is
such a large diameter package I"m not sure that it would fit inside. I use
the bag with the 70-200 f/2.8, which is essentially the same length as your
100-400. It does have an all-weather cover in a pouch on the front, and
comes with both a shoulder strap and a harness for hiking. As with any bag,
it would be advisable to try your equipment in one if possible before buying
one.
