I am new to photograph and have a real basic question. My son is getting married and I would like to take photos of my own in addition to the photographer. I have a A2E with a 28-105 zoom. I am not a fan of flash pictures but I know the speed of the zoom lens will be limited with the built-in flash and wonder if a lens like the Canon 85mm fixed focal would be a good addition because of its higher speed. Or should I just buy the 540ez flash and use the 29-105. The cost is a factor but both are in the same price range. I can not afford any professional level lenses, Thanks Jim -- Hi Jim, Is the wedding at night? Is there any part taking place outdoors? See what kind of images the hired pro will be shooting and try to fill out the book with images the pro won't get. Shoot in B&W and take candid shots of your son and his friends getting ready before during and after the wedding ceremony. Take images during your new daughter-in-law's girlfriends getting makeup and dressing. Don't be afraid to shoot them in compromising positions, they'll love and cherish the images later! Try to shoot the same images as for your son and his friends. Be certain to get the mom and new in-laws with your kids and families, shoot and ask later, DON'T let them get "ready" or pose for you, if they do walk away and come back later. Long term the 540EZ is a better investment for use with your EOS 5/A2E body. The 540EZ is a pretty powerful flash and will likely do all you need and more. Also when you get the 540EZ get a big diffuser like a Lumiquest 80/20 system and use it! Use the 80/20 in small to medium size rooms and the white insert and frosted front diffuser where you have no white or light colored ceilings to bounce off of. This is an excellent way to get flash images that look more natural than direct on camera flash. Look here: http://www.lumiquest.com/lq931.htm Happy wedding and congrats!
