I guess the less than subtle approach of Outlook got lost here: it 
creates one or more *empty* lines on top of the quote, thereby 
strongly inviting you to start typing there. 
Other mail-clients simply don't do that, even though their cursor 
starts on top too....much less inviting (especially if the first line 
reads 'On xx-yy-zz, X wrote in message ABC:', instead of '-original 
message-').

(I believe there are also mail-clients who don't show the quote at 
all, while still sending it along, probably on the bottom too, 
although I believe this is limited to MIME/HTML/RTF-formats, which 
don't make it to the list anyway)
