There's always room for negotiation... I requested a quote for a 500mm f/4L IS here in Montreal, and the guy started at Can$13,000 and within seconds, I had him drop his price to Can$9,000. I'm sure I can get a much better price than that with a bit more effort... I have the feeling that, for these rare optics, they try to sell them as expensive as they can.
