At risk of appearing rude ...

it's interesting how we as photographers can afford such lenses yet
can't afford lens caps ;o)

Canon's hood for the 20mm *is* expensive BUT it also works.  Any
circular rubber hood will do one of two things
1) it won't vignette - therefore it won't be any where near as
efficient as a "vertical" lens hood as it could be
2) it will vignette big time.

I've tried adding masking tape around mine (EOS 1n, 100% viewfinder)
and any more than about 1mm beyond the shape of Canon's hood comes in
to the frame.

It reall is a case of get the real thing for this lens, sorry.
